CrossPoint believes that the greatest mistake the church can make is to focus on itself. For a community of believers to remain relevant and vibrant, they need to be focusing on the needs of a broken world and constantly reaching outside themselves with the blessings they have been given. This teaching is clear in Scripture:

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt 28:18-20, NIV)

Our purpose as a body of believers is to go and tell the good news and to use our lives as object lessons for that good news…that Jesus has saved us and that He loves us!

So how is CrossPoint doing this? Through a unique multi-team effort we call Project 1:8.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

(Acts 1:8, NIV)

Our missions department is structured around this powerful verse from the book of Acts. Project 1:8 is our effort to fulfill the calling that God has put on our lives as followers of Jesus. The project consists of 4 teams:

Jerusalem team (local ministries and needs)

Judea team (reaching Kansas)

Samaria team (reaching N. America)

Ends of the Earth team (reaching internationally)

Some special projects include a Chainsaw team that focuses on disaster clean up in N. America, an ongoing connection with an urban shelter in Iowa and the continual relationship with mission work in North Africa. CrossPointers have made an impact in Mexcio, Turkey, Haiti, Kenya and points all around the world.

But Project 1:8 isn’t the only way we’re getting the word out.

“ If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” (Philippians 2:1-2, NIV)

Another area we are passionate about is our direct giving to the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) Cooperative Program. Through this program, our individual giving is pooled together into one large offering. That large offering is then combined with the mission offerings from every other church within the SBC to make up one huge missions contribution. This conjoined effort is used to fund more than 10,000 missionaries who are making a difference everyday!

So, where do you fit in all of this?

“Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matt 9:37-38)

If you are considering joining one of our teams on a mission project, then you are an answer to prayer! Consider this your invitation to be a part of what God is doing in our community and in our world.
