We serve a faithful God. He is so good. We are never alone because he is always with his people! Not only is he with us, but he provides us our basic needs. Both, our earthly and spiritual needs are satisfied in/through Christ. This is a marvelous thing we get to enjoy!

However, God doesn’t simply bless us just so we can say we are a blessed people. There are two main reasons why God blesses us. We are blessed (1) because he loves us, and (2) so we can be a blessing to others.

The Lord blesses us! He loves us! Because of this, we can be a blessing to others. He instructs us, so we can instruct others. He comforts us, so we can comfort others.

Blessings flow from God, but they should never stop with us. They come to us, and then flow through us.

Paul teaches the church in Corinth, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God,” (2 Cor. 1:3-4).

Proverbs 11 teaches that God blesses those who are generous, but withholds blessing from the greedy. Jump into the New Testament, and you will find more verses like this such as Matthew 5:7—“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

The Christian faith proves to be way bigger than just me and just you.

His blessings are not meant to be totally consumed by us. Otherwise, we would shoot straight up to heaven upon conversion! Alas, we are here on earth with an assignment. Since we are still here on earth, it must be for a reason.

What is your life's reason? Who has yet to be blessed by you before you get to heaven?

A number of Bible verses support the idea that since we are blessed, we are to be a blessing. I think primarily of 2 Corinthians, chapters 8 and 9. Both chapters have a lot of insight. A summary of Paul’s exhortation may be found at 2 Cor. 9:11—”You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way.”

This is a sure mark of a child of God. What a thought. What a responsibility. What a blessing it is to be a blessing.
